Whether和if的區別

一、引導賓語從句
這時兩者的含義區別很小,一般可通用.I don#39;t know whether/if they will come to help us.但是,當whether與or not連成一個詞組時,whether不可換用if.I don#39;t know whether or not they will come for our help.若whether和or not不連在一起,在口語中可以用if取代whether此外,還有三種情況值得注意：
(1)在介詞后面只能用whether,不能用if.I am not interested in whether you#39;ll come or not.
(2)在動詞不定式之前,只能用whether,不能用if.He doesn#39;t know whether to stay or not.
(3)在及物運動discuss后的賓語從句中,只能用whether,不能用if.We discussed whether we should make a change in our plan.
二、引導主語從句
只能用whether,不能用if.It is unknown whether he will come.Whether the news is true remains a question.
三、引導表語從句
只能用whether,不能用ifThe question is whether they can take our advice.
四、引導同位語從句

常用whetherThe question whether he#39;ll come is unknown.

五、可以用來引導一個否定的賓語從句

whether則不能用來引導否定的賓語從句,因為它表示正反兩方面的選擇意義比較強.Tell me if it is not going to rain,please.

六、if除引導賓語從句外,還可以引導條件狀語從句

作是否解.在容易引起混淆產生歧義的情況下,就不可用if,而須用whether.Please let me know if you intend to come.這個句子有兩種解釋：A：請讓我們知道你是否想來. B：如果你打算來,請讓我們知道.在書面語中,如果我們想表達的第一種含義,就得用whether來改寫第一句.
Please let me know whether you intend to come.
通俗來講,whether在大多數情況下都可以用,而if則不然,有wether和if時一般選wether不會有錯,但是如果所需的意思是如果,自然只能選if了。
